Evolution of climate comfort on the southeast coast of the Iberian Peninsula and its relationship with climate change
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the current context of climate change, spatio-temporal changes occur in the bioclimatic indicators associated with climate comfort. The variations are especially relevant in those regions with a clear focus on mass and seasonal sun and beach tourism, with a large number of tourists under the influence of discomfort feelings in hot and humid summer environments of the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula. This research analyzes the temporal evolution (1967-2022) for the coasts of the provinces of Alicante and Murcia (Spain) through two indices: climate comfort index (CI), and the modified Tourism Climate Index de Mieczkowski (TCI). The results reveal a loss of climatic comfort during the summer season, as well as an expansion of the warm period towards June and early September. For its part, there is an increase in thermal comfort in winter, especially during the month of December in recent years (2000-2022).
