Application of the Ethnogeography of medicinal plants to the Management of Tropical Natural Resources: Dominican Republic

Abstract
An application methodology is presented for the knowledge of the territorial distribution of the traditional use of medicinal plants and its application to the management of natural resources. The natural resource management methodology is based on the one developed by the research group in international technical consultancies in Iberoamerica and Africa, based on the use of socio-environmental surveys to learn about the social fabric, feeling of belonging and use and knowledge of their natural resources. Management levels are applied in three large categories A, B, C, divided into 11 subcategories, with management standards. The objective is to take these results into consideration to establish management guidelines. In the case of ethnogeographical resources, sectoral surveys are proposed in which the used parts of the plants and their biological status are valued in order to establish regulations for use. The methodology used makes it possible to establish guidelines for the management of this resource in management zones A and C, and action measures linked to the conservation of knowledge of the use as a resource of traditional medicine as cultural heritage, especially in developing countries, are proposed.
