Barrancas de Barrujón (Toledo, Spain, 2019)
Main Article Content
Abstract
This place is located 30 km from Toledo where the river Tajo creates an incision in detrital materials from the tertiary era (reddish clay rock), creating deep canyons near the Castrejón reservoir.
This setting is special because of the reddish color-scheme of the astonishing scarp, which can reach 120 m, is in contrast with the water of the Tajo reservoir, creating a valuable landscape that can remind us vaguely of the Grand Canyon in Colorado.
In 2010 this landscape was declared Natural Monument by the regional government of Castilla La Mancha. It is also classified as a Special Protection Area for Birds and Site of Community Importance.
